THE KELVIN GROVE WIND ORCHESTRA
The Kelvin Grove Wind Orchestra is a community based orchestra of more than 60 musicians, of all ages and from all walks of life. The KGWO formed in 1997 as an Adult Starters concert band and incorporated in 1998. Half of the players are foundation members.
The KGWO sound includes brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, and the orchestra plays a variety of musical styles including serious symphonic band repertoire, well known classical and contemporary works and popular pieces. The KGWO goal is high quality musical performance, at an accessible price.
The KGWO rehearses at The Old Museum Building on the corner of Gregory Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road and stages three major concerts each year, showcasing talented young guest artists, and also performs at charity events, retirement villages and in regional centres.
KGWO members enjoy striving for musical excellence and the satisfaction of staging exciting and successful concerts. Rehearsals are held each week on Thursday nights during school term and KGWO is currently seeking new players for some instruments.
Dale Hubbard, the Orchestra director, has a music degree from the Queensland Conservatorium where she majored in clarinet & piano. She has studied ensemble direction and conducting in Australia and composes for contemporary chamber ensembles. Dale is Head of Bands and teaches clarinet and saxophone at Moreton Bay College.
