KGWO Online Concert 2020

We did it!!!! A little worse for wear due to the COVID crisis, but.... so very happy to be able to present to you our first and only live concert for 2020, streamed live from The Old Museum in December 2020...

We are a community-based orchestra of more than 70 musicians. Our ages, professions, and cultural backgrounds vary, but what unites us is a joy of rehearsing and performing a wide range of music for the people of Brisbane and our city’s many visitors. Each of our concerts presents a selection of works based around a theme.

The KGWO sound - brass, woodwind and percussion - is ideal for a variety of musical styles. We perform serious symphonic repertoire, light classical works, contemporary works, and popular pieces. Our goal is to present enjoyable, memorable concerts where the quality of performance, the breadth of music, and the affordability keeps audiences coming back. Our concerts are enjoyed by people of all ages.

Since 1997, KGWO has been the talk of the town thanks to its wide range of quality, entertaining concerts. As a Community Orchestra, we believe in engaging with the community and embracing the talents of our local aspiring artists. Our goal is to offer audiences a diverse variety of dazzling concerts at very affordable prices. Expect to be entertained!

KGWO – Celebrating 20+ Years! (2022 will make it 25 years!)

2017 was KGWO’s 20th Anniversary! From humble beginnings as an adult starter band, we have developed into a 70 piece advanced Wind orchestra. Each year we stage three very well attended concerts that showcase the depth of talent this community orchestra has developed over the years. Join us for a walk down memory lane with a look back in time at all our past concerts!

KGWO, arguably Brisbane's most successful community wind orchestra, celebrated their 20th anniversary with a sold out performance at The Old Museum on Sunday 10 December 2017. With special guests Julie Lea Goodwin (Principle Soprano at the Australian Opera) and Alex Raineri (renowned pianist) joining then for one performance only, this was a highlight concert for this dynamic local orchestra.

The 450 seat capacity concert hall at The Old Museum sold out early, a testament to the strong and loyal patrons base the orchestra has established. "Usually at this time we would invite Brisbane's music lovers to join us on the day," observed KGWO president Denis Madigan "but we have run out of seats! We do though warmly welcome everyone to join us for our first concert next year which will be themed around sport, to tie in with the Commonwealth Games next year."

KGWO's Musical Director, Dale Hubbard, believes that KGWO's focus on putting on the most entertaining concerts possible remains a key element in the orchestra's success, along with a very dedicated committee and army of volunteer helpers, and a strategic approach to selecting repertoire. "We have created a very unique product, a first class community ensemble."

The orchestra's web site (kgwo.org.au) has a complete history of all past concerts, including downloadable programs, if you want to learn more about the orchestra's road to success.
